40 Days of Recovery – Day 14

Bible Reading: Hebrews 10:19-24
Focus Verse: Hebrews 10:24

The Bible encourages us to encourage each other. In the process of recovery, this is a necessity. Every day I wake up I thank God for all He has done in my life and I also thank Him for all the positive, spiritual mentors He has placed in my life over the tears.

In about 2003 or 2004, not sure which one. I was in lay leadership at the Salvation Army if Ferntree Gully and I attended a seminar led by John Mallison on his book ‘Mentoring to Develop Leaders’  from the encouragement I gained at that seminar and the prompting of the Holy Spirit I wrote a six-week leadership training guide based on the principles in John’s book and Robert Coleman’s book ‘The Master Plan of Evangelism’ based on how Jesus mentored His disciples.  A guide we used at Ferntree Gully Salvo’s to train the leadership on how to disciple people in a one-to-one mentoring relationship. As I said every day I wake I thank God for all He has done in my life.

I believe that without a healthy support network in recovery we are doomed to failure. We cannot do this alone. But I don’t believe it’s a one-to-one relationship. I believe it is a two-to-one relationship., God working with, in and through us to affect the lives of others.

Later on today I will be posting the podcast ‘Building Support Networks’. Join me as we begin week three of ‘The 4o Days of Recovery’ together.
