4o Days of Recovery – Day 7

We All Need Recovery
Oh, what a wonderful God we have! How great are his wisdom and knowledge and riches! How impossible it is for us to understand his decisions and his methods! For who among us can know the mind of the Lord? Who knows enough to be his counselor and guide? And who could ever offer to the Lord enough to induce him to act? For everything comes from God alone. Everything lives by his power, and everything is for his glory. To him be glory evermore. Romans 11:33-36

When we come to the realization that “our lives are a mess and we are out of control.” (step one) we accept that in our own strength from our own experience of life we are incapable of changing. We also realize that the help we need to change needs to come not from human strength but from Higher Power strength. Step Two says “I believe God exists, that he cares about me and He can help me to regain control of my life.” This step talks not about becoming a Christian but about believing there is a God, who cares about me and has the power in His strength to help me to change my life.

The purpose of recovery is life-transformation. Life-transformation comes through obedience to the principles of Romans 12:2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world but be a new and different person with a fresh newness in all you do and think. Then you will learn from your own experience how his ways will really satisfy you. Recovery comes through learning a new way of living, God’s way. Changing the way we think and behave. And learning from our own experience of the reality of God in our lives as we work through the Twelve Steps on a daily basis.
