At the end of this week it is my intention to share the Step Seven video WE HUMBLY ASKE GOD TO HELP US TO CHAGE OUR HABITS (via my Youtube channel) As a lead up to the video this week daily I will share Daily Discussion Starters based on the topic of habits. Today I want to share discussion starter #13 – CHANGE YOUR HABITS
Don’t be gullible. Check out everything, and keep only what’s good. Throw out anything tainted with evil. 1 Thessalonians 5:21-22
I learned bad habits by doing bad things. I did bad things because they felt good. Notice I said ‘they felt good’ not ‘they were right.’
Recovery is about doing the right thing. We are all born knowing the difference between right and wrong. Most of us end up in trouble because we choose to do wrong. I did.
In recovery and in life the best source I have found to learn the right thing from is the Bible. God created us in His image and He gave us His Word as a guide of how to live life as He wants us to.
– Do you read the Bible?
– Do you Pray? – If not, why not?
– Are you willing to start?
Prayer: God today give me a desire to do the right thing. Give me a thirst to know Your Word and to apply it to my life.
STOP BEATING YOURSELF UP
What I don’t understand about myself is that I decide one way, but then I act another, doing things I absolutely despise. Romans 7:15
– One of the best ways to deal with bad habits is to accept them for what they are and confess them honestly to God,
REPLACE BAD HABITS WITH GOOD HABITS
Don’t shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ—that’s where the action is. See things from his perspective. Colossians 3:2
– Changing bad habits brings deeper satisfaction in the recovery process.
BE AN EXAMPLE TO OTHERS
Teach believers with your life: by word, by demeanor, by love, by faith, by integrity.
1 Timothy 4:12
– Make it a habit to share what God has done and is doing in and through your life.
