When I introduce myself to speak in recovery meetings I generally say: “My name is Archie and I am a recovered alcoholic. Recovered through the saving grace of Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit living in and through my life on a daily basis.”
A bit of a mouthful I know but based on a choice I made many years ago when I turned my life over to God. I have been criticized more than once in different recovery fellowships for it but I believe it.
Over the 30+ years I have been in may meetings AA, NA, Adult Children of Alcoholics, Alcohilcs Victorious, Overcomers Outreach,Celebrate Recovery and Living Life Recovery. My hope and my prayer is that for the rest of my days I will continue to attend many meetings because it helps me. The scripture above says ‘encourage one another‘
WE ARE ENCOURAGED TO ENCOURAGE OTHERS AS GOD ENCOURAGES US
Those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not become weary, they will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
THE HOLY SPIRIT ENCOURAGES US All over the country—Judea, Samaria, Galilee—the church grew. They were permeated with a deep sense of reverence for God. The Holy Spirit was with them, strengthening them. They prospered wonderfully. Acts 9:31
ENCOURAGE OTHERS IN LOVE Let’s see how inventive we can be in encouraging love and helping out. Hebrews 10:24
ENCOURAGE OTHERS NO TO SIN For as long as it’s still God’s Today, keep each other on your toes so sin doesn’t slow down your reflexes. Hebrews 3:13
To prevent having an unbelieving heart, stay in fellowship with others, talk regularly about your faith, be aware of the deceitfulness of sin (it attracts and also destroys), and encourage each other with love and concern.
