I am committing to help God help me change.
You are familiar with the generosity of our Master, Jesus Christ. Rich as he was, he gave it all away for us–in one stroke he became poor and we became rich. So here’s what I think: The best thing you can do right now is to finish what you started last year and not let those good intentions grow stale. Your heart’s been in the right place all along. You’ve got what it takes to finish it up, so go to it. Once the commitment is clear, you do what you can, not what you can’t. The heart regulates the hands. 2 Corinthians 8:9-12
Here are six things I found useful in the process of learning to ‘COMMITTING TO LETTING GOD HELP ME CHANGE’
Communicate with God regularly
GOD WANTS YOU TO BE YOURSELF
Ephesians 5:6Don’t let yourselves get taken in by religious smooth talk. God gets furious with people who are full of religious sales talk but want nothing to do with him.
Obey what God tells you to do
Jeremiah 7:23 “Obey me. Do what I say and I will be your God and you will be my people. Live the way I tell you. Do what I command so that your lives will go well.”
Make Jesus Christ your ‘One True Higher Power’
Matthew 9:13 Figure out what this Scripture means: ‘I’m after mercy, not religion.’ I’m here to invite outsiders, not coddle insiders.”
Make God’s goals your goals
Jeremiah 29:11 I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out–plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.
Include the Holy Spirit in everything
2 Timothy 1:14 Guard this precious thing placed in your custody by the Holy Spirit who works in us.
Think! Think! Think!
Matthew 15:19 It’s from the heart that we vomit up evil arguments, murders, adulteries, fornication’s, thefts, lies, and
cussing.
STEP THREE
I AM MAKING A DECISION TO LET GOD HELP ME CHANGE
AND COMMIT TO WORKING WITH HIM TO DO SO
- WHEN YOU ARE COMMITTED TO FOLLOWING GOD, HE WILL LEAD YOU TO DISCOVER HIS WILL FOR YOUR LIFE, THE PURPOSE FOR WHICH HE CREATED YOU.
Psalms 25:10 From now on every road you travel Will take you to God. Follow the Covenant signs; Read the charted directions. - WHEN YOU ARE COMMITTED TO GOD, HE IS COMMITTED TO WATCHING OUT FOR YOU AND CARING FOR YOU
Psalms 31:23 God takes care of all who stay close to Him.
A PROMISE FROM GOD
Hebrews 3:14 If we can only keep our grip on the sure thing we started, we’re in this with Christ for the long haul.
Talk It Over
Have you committed to helping God help you change? If not, why not?
2. The promise of God says, “If we can keep our grip on what we have started!” How can you keep your grip on not allowing the past to drag you backward? Explain
