Lending a Hand
I’m letting you know what I need, calling out for help And lifting my arms toward your inner sanctum. Psalms 28:2
The third part of step three says ‘I will commit to helping God help me change.’ I love the verse above. God already knows what each of us needs but when begin the recovery process we have no idea. That is why He wants us to tell Him what we think we need. To get our mind focused on ‘the goal’ lasting, growing spiritual recovery at any cost.
Deep concerns confront us in learning the truth of the world in which we have been living. Everyday alcohol and drug abuse causing and aggravating sickness/ Mentally, physically and spiritually. A major factor in domestic violence, family breakdowns, car accidents, hooliganism and disrespectful and shameful treatment of ourselves and others.
Jesus seeks to tear us away from all of that. In Matthew 12:10-12 its says: There was a man there with a crippled hand. They said to Jesus, “Is it legal to heal on the Sabbath?” They were baiting him. He replied, “Is there a person here who, finding one of your lambs fallen into a ravine, wouldn’t, even though it was a Sabbath, pull it out? Surely kindness to people is as legal as kindness to animals!” Imparting life into what was previously been limp and useless, Jesus expected the man would become useful and put his hands to good work.
Now that we have decided to part with the past and allow Jesus to be our ‘One True Higher Power’ He expects the same from us. He expects us to lend a helping hand to others. It is time to offer our gifts, talents and abilities to those struggling with what we have already overcome with His help.
Our reluctance to lend a helping hand may disappoint Jesus. Dare we sadden Him? Lack of spiritual progress may occur if we refuse to put what we have learned into practice i handing out support to others for the release of captivity in the grips of sin and addiction.
