Ephesians 1:11 It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living.
Acts 2:38 Peter said, “Change your life. Turn to God and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, so your sins are forgiven. Receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
Hi and welcome to Church for People with Addictions. One of the definitions dictionary.com gives for a church is a part of the whole Christian body, or a particular denomination, belonging to the same city, country, nation, etc. I want to begin by saying my name is Archie and I am recovered alcoholic. Recovered through the saving Grace of Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit living in and through my life on a daily basis.
Living Life Recovery is very much a part of the whole Christian body. Our goal is to see people overcome the pain and suffering associated with addictive and compulsive lives through an introduction to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Our denomination is we are all sinners and the only requirement for seeking to belong to Living Life Recovery is a sincere desire to change your life.
Living Life Recovery is a safe place where people can come and investigate the realities of God’s promises for
themselves, at their own pace. We do it by way of learning and applying the Twelve Steps of Living Life Recovery to
every area of our lives. Through getting into a relationship with others suffering from the problems of life who also desire change and will support us in our daily walk.
As a way of support, we also recommend people establish their own or join a 12 Step study group for the purpose of
spiritual growth. We are not a substitute for attendance at a local church but we do recognize that attendance at church in the early stages of recovery can be threatening. We recommend if you do not now attend a local church you find a good Bible-based church and start attending it as often as you can. And, that you seek to find a supportive Christian friend who can introduce you to the first steps of faith.
Church for People with Addictions purposely aims at helping people grow spiritually through:
We believe that Jesus Christ is the one True Higher and The Holy Spirit is necessary for achieving freedom from our
addictions and compulsions. We believe that productive and peaceful lives result from knowing Him, sharing in relationship with Him and seeking His will for our lives and His strength to achieve it.
Today we are going to look at three points about ourselves that I am sure we can all relate to.
1. WE ALL HAVE PROBLEMS
John 16:33 “In this godless world you will continue to experience difficulties. But take heart! I’ve conquered the
world.”
I recently read a quote that says “What we get out of life depends a lot on what we look for. Are we more likely to see each experience as trash or treasure.”
We have all heard the saying “You become what you think about most.”
If we trust people we get what people can do. If we trust money, we get what money can do; If we trust God we get
what God can do.—What or who are you trusting in when it comes to overcoming your problems?
2. WE ALL HAVE PLANS
Proverbs 16:9 We plan the way we want to live, but only God makes us able to live it.
A lot of people are trying to operate on the plans of Christ when they aren’t even Christians. A word of caution ‘make
sure you know Him and His plans for you before you start to apply His principles to your life.’
The only thing that can defeat the faith God has given you is you. We must use our faith to keep it growing ‘USE IT OR LOSE IT.’
3. WE ALL HAVE POTENTIAL
Philippians 4:13 Whatever I have, wherever I am, I can make it through anything in the One who makes me who I am.
The original and simple meaning of the word ‘Character’ is something carved or inscribed in a man’s nature. Our
character determines how we see ourselves, how others see us. It is also the measure by which God will judge us when we stand before Him. Our character is what will determine whether we are successful or unsuccessful in the recovery process.
John 3:16 “This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.”
I don’t know who among you have read this before but this Easter the Holy Spirit is prompting me to repost it.
