Doubting Thomas

Thomas, called the Twin, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples, therefore, said to him, “We have seen the Lord.” So he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.” John 20:24-25

Dubbed ‘Doubting Thomas’ Thomas suffered unfairly because he chose to express some of his inner doubts. But an updated version of his man probably rubs shoulders with us every day. Thomas refused to be a believer because of others around him who tried to use their influence to steer him in the right direction. He would either be convinced and commit his life to Jesus totally or he would have no faith at all. He displayed intellectual integrity, tested the claims of the other disciples and sought clarification for Jesus Himself.

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. John 14:6 

It is important in the process of recovery we each know Jesus in all three aspects of this verse to achieve self-discovery and life-fulfillment. God is patient with us in our doubt and offers Himself to quell our unbelief and uncertainty. When we are sincere and willing to learn, like Thomas our doubt can be transformed into an experience of Godly relationship as we walk with Him day by day.
